Review Policy & Testing Methodology

High-tech planted aquariums leave zero margin for error. An inefficient LED fixture can stall plant development while triggering stubborn algae blooms, and a faulty CO2 regulator can endanger livestock within hours. AquaFlux Lab was built to eliminate guesswork through rigorous, hands-on evaluations and transparent technical benchmarking.

Our Dedicated Editorial Team

Every piece of hardware evaluated on AquaFlux Lab undergoes rigorous review led by specialists with direct experience in aquatic botany, equipment engineering, and water chemistry:

How We Test & Benchmark Gear

We do not rely on factory spec sheets. Our lighting benchmarks involve taking quantum sensor measurements at 6-inch, 12-inch, and 18-inch water depths, calculating true photosynthetic active radiation, and recording thermal output after eight continuous hours of operation. For pressurized gas systems, we monitor pressure drop-off near tank depletion (end-of-tank dump protection), check solenoid surface temperatures, and gauge dissolution saturation across standard 60cm and 90cm layouts.

The "AquaFlux Recommended" Standard

When a product receives the "AquaFlux Recommended" badge, it has cleared strict benchmarks across four distinct areas:

Affiliate Transparency & Editorial Independence

AquaFlux Lab is reader-supported. When you purchase equipment through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. However, our ratings are completely independent. We do not accept sponsored placements, paid positive reviews, or third-party interference in our scoring. If an expensive flagship light underperforms or an affordable needle valve drifts, we report it plainly so you can invest in your aquascape with total confidence.
